i loved Miles

of course, he was the smartest kid in town because he had quit school    and could drive straight when he'd been drinking
   and he was rich

oh that's rich, Miles!     i'd say

always when we were in Deliverance    a couple of miles from town with the case on the floorboard and the
first tingle of beer and anticipation in our throats,
he'd ask
   how do you guys want me to drive, fast or slow?
   and we'd shrug carelessly and brace our feet and the other carb would kick in
   as we greased those little back roads   as Miles drove fast and straight

Miles and i were the last to go home because
he didn't have to be in at any special time and

i couldn't leave him     we'd eat eggs in the all night place then i'd throw up
